Video Consultations
While an appointment is not strictly necessary to use the StudioLab's video editing equipment, it is highly recommended that you call ahead simply because we have limited resources and high demand from students, faculty, and staff.
When embarking on a video project, there are some things you need to know before you even get started. Video editing in the StudioLab is a three step process once you have your video footage on tape.
- Import your footage onto the computer. This happens in real time--if you have 30 minutes of footage to transfer, you're going to need 30 minutes just for putting that footage on the computer in an editable format before you can even touch it. Plan on staying with your video the entire time you are importing in the StudioLab. Bring a book.
- Edit your footage by cutting clips, adding titles, and adding transitions. A StudioLab consultant can walk you through how to edit your movie.
- Export your movie in whatever format will work for your project--this step differs based on the length of your movie, the format and quality you need, and whether you're burning to a DVD or CD. The longer your movie and the higher quality you need, the longer the video editing process will be.
The most important tip we have for video projects: plan ahead!!
