What happened to the "CCLC"?

You may have noticed that the name of the CCLC has changed to the CTL StudioLab.

Don't panic!

Students and staff can expect the same collaborative, exploratory environment as the CCLC. You can still checkout video equipment (we even have new cameras!), schedule writing consultations, or come down and use any of the same software.

For faculty, the integration of the Center for Teaching and Learning with the StudioLab will provide faculty with streamlined processes for assignment and course design, support, and implementation.

New Computers

Although all of the StudioLab's new computers look like Macs, they actually run both Mac OS X 10.5 and Windows XP. When the computer is turned on, an onscreen prompt asks you which operating system you would prefer to use - and you simply click the icon representing the operating system you prefer.

All of the software that you are accustomed to using on the StudioLab's computers is still available; in fact, most of the software has been updated to the most recent version. You are welcome to explore the software that we have available, or you can chat with a consultant! We are all quite excited about our new equipment and will be happy to help you!

What the StudioLab does

The StudioLab, a branch of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), offers Furman faculty, staff, and students access to cutting-edge technology. Consultants provide one-on-one assistance in learning to use all forms of technology, including writing. We offer both assistance with collaborative digital projects and one-on-one writing consultations. The StudioLab can assist you at whatever stage of the project that you're in and help you progress to the next level. We're not just a place for those who "need help;" everyone can benefit from intelligent conversation about their work!

The StudioLab also serves as a support base for small group collaborations and collaborative teaching projects. Comfortable meeting spaces, spacious work stations, and a relaxed, informal atmosphere make the StudioLab an ideal environment for planning and work sessions. Faculty are welcome to consult with us for ideas on using technology to enhance teaching and collaboration, both inside and outside the classroom.
