If you check out equipment, then you are responsible for returning it on time. We do not recognize delegation of responsibility. Please read the policy below for consequences of late returns.
Digital Video Cameras
If you wish to check out a StudioLab Camera, you must read the policy outlined below.
The StudioLab has seventeen digital video cameras for check-out. Seven of these record to MiniDV tapes (not provided), and ten of these record to SD cards. You must have a valid Furman ID with you when you pick up the camera.
You may reserve the camera for a specific date and time and may use it for up to but no longer than 24 hours. However, if the camera is checked out after 4:00 PM on Thursday, it will be due back Sunday night at 7:00 PM when the StudioLab opens again. Otherwise, the camera is due back in the StudioLab (with tripod and all items in the camera bag) 24 hours after the reservation time. If you are late picking up the camera, then you have less than 24 hours in which to use it. This is a necessary limit for scheduling purposes.
Consecutive reservations or check out periods must be approved and scheduled in advance by the CTL Director or Associate Directors. Under normal circumstances, there must be at least 24 hours between camera check-outs.
If a video camera is more than 24 hours late, Public Safety will be notified and the patron will not be allowed to check out any StudioLab equipment for the remainder of the semester. Note: If it is near the end of the term, we may restrict check-out privileges for the remainder of the semester and the following semester.
• The first time that a camera is returned late, the patron will receive a warning.
• The second time that a camera is returned late, the patron will not be allowed to check out any StudioLab equipment for the remainder of the semester. Note: If it is near the end of the term, we may restrict check-out privileges for the remainder of the semester and the following semester.
• The third time that a camera is returned late, the patron will no longer be able to check out any StudioLab equipment from the StudioLab.
StudioLab cameras may not be transferred from one person to another for use. The person who checks out the camera is the person responsible for it, and is also the person we'll report to Public Safety if the camera is not returned on time.
When you pick up the camera, you will be asked to sign an acceptance of liability form. The miniDV camera comes with: a camera case with shoulder strap, optional tripod for filming, and two batteries (one with approximately 1-2 hours of life, and a second with approximately 2-4 hours of life). The SD camera comes with: a camera case with shoulder strap, two batteries (both with approximately 2 hours of life), and one 4GB SD card.
All data should be erased from the StudioLab's SD Card before returning the camera. If you need to transfer files to a computer in the StudioLab, please make an appointment for the same time or before the camera is due to be returned.
Important note: The StudioLab does NOT provide any recordable media (no CD's, no DVD's, no tapes for filming)! You must provide your own mini-DV tape for use with the StudioLab digital video cameras. We also have three video cameras that remains in the StudioLab at all times, but they are available for transferring footage from your tape to a StudioLab computer for editing or filming projects in one of the StudioLab's group rooms.
